Pastor Kent Rufo was born and raised in a small town in northwest Ohio. He attended a local elementary, junior high and high school. He has always loved playing sports and hanging out with friends. After high school Pastor Kent attended Bowling Green State University for 3 years. While working towards a degree in Biology he joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, worked in the university health center and was a tour guide. He also held leadership positions in the G.A.M.M.A and Internal-Fraternal Council organizations.
After junior year of college, Kent realized that his lifestyle was not headed in a good direction, and took a semester off of school to earn money to attend a Seventh-day Adventist college. In the spring of 1997 he enrolled at Southern Adventist University. During his first semester Kent decided to give his life to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Since then he says his “life has never been the same”. Before graduating with a BA in Biology in 2000, Pastor Kent spent a year on an island in Korea as a student missionary.
In the fall of 2000, deciding not to pursue medicine or education, Kent attended the Andrews University Seminary pursuing a Masters of Divinity degree. The first acquaintance he met on campus was Anna, his “gorgeous wife to be.” The two remained friends for three years before considering to date each other. As his MDIV studies progressed Kent was not convinced of a life in pastoral ministry and spent another year overseas as a missionary. He returned to finish his MDIV in 2004.
Since seminary life, Pastor Kent has pastored in a University town, at a church plant, as an associate pastor and been a chaplain at Campion Academy. From 2010 until now he has served as the youth pastor of the Arlington SDA Church in Arlington, TX. After marrying Anna in 2005 the couple have had two “beautiful, yet sometimes mischievous children.” Madison, their daughter, was born to them in 2008 and Jadon, their son, followed in 2011.
Pastor Kent is excited about getting back into ministry in a lead capacity. He and his family pray that God will use them in a mighty way to grow the kingdom while they are in Downers Grove.
Pastor Kent will be making regular visits to our church until January when he and his family will be making the move to Illinois.
Feel free to welcome them!
