RICHARD M. DAVIDSON

Richard M. Davidson

Richard M. Davidson is J. N. Andrews Professor of Old Testament Interpretation at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan. He has been with the Andrews faculty since 1979.

Born in California, Davidson attended Loma Linda University, Riverside, California, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theology. Two years later he earned his master of divinity degree summa cum laude from the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University. He also received his doctorate in Biblical Studies at Andrews in 1981. His doctoral dissertation was titled “Typological Structures in the Old and New Testaments.” It is now published under the title Typology in Scripture.

Before coming to Andrews Davidson served as an associate pastor of a Seventh-day Adventist church in Phoenix, Arizona, and as pastor of the Flagstaff Seventh-day Adventist Church for more than five years. He was ordained as a minister in Prescott, Arizona, in 1974.

Davidson is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, the Evangelical Theological Society, and the Adventist Theological Society. He has presented over seventy scholarly papers at professional meetings of these societies and other venues.

Davidson has written numerous articles for refereed journals and Adventist denominational papers, as well as various chapters in scholarly books. Additional publications include the following books: A Love Song for the Sabbath (Review and Herald Publishing Association, 1988), In the Footsteps of Joshua (Review and Herald Publishing Association, 1995), Biblical Hermeneutics (in Romanian; Editura CARD, 2003), and Flame of Yahweh: Sexuality in the Old Testament (Hendrickson Publishers, 2007).

He is married to Jo Ann Mazat Davidson who also teaches at the Theological Seminary. They have a daughter, Rahel, and a son, Jonathan. Davidson enjoys backpacking, mountaineering, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and tennis.

Jo Ann Davidson

Daughter of missionary parents, Jo Ann Davidson is also a fourth generation Seventh-day Adventist. She recalls her mother saying to her, “the blessings of being a Seventh-day Adventist have surely seeped into your genes and chromosomes by now!”
Formerly a home schooling mom and music instructor, Jo Ann now teaches in the Andrews University Theological Seminary-the first woman to teach in the Theology department. She earned her Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield, IL) in 2000.

Articles she has written have appeared in the Adventist Review, Signs of the Times, and the Journal of The Adventist Theological Society. Her column, “Let’s Face It,” which has a woman’s slant on theology appears regularly in the journal Perspective Digest. She has also authored the books Jonah: The Inside Story, published by the Review and Herald, and Toward a Theology of Beauty: A Biblical Perspective, published by University Press of America.

Jo Ann finds great fulfillment in her many roles as wife, mother, daughter, sister, auntie, teacher, musician, student and Seventh-day Adventist Christian.

We are underway with our city-wide evangelistic meetings in Chicagoland. The first series began on April 16 at the Gurnee Church with evangelist Emmanuel Baek. This past weekend meetings began in several places including Crystal Lake, Burbank, Joliet and Southwest.
Mark Finley is preaching in two locations: North Shore and Hinsdale. Between those two sites about 2000 people were in attendance on opening night. At North Shore there were almost 200 people in the overflow space in the gym watching on a projection screen. At Hinsdale the sanctuary, the youth chapel and the fellowship hall were all filled. About half of those in attendance at these two locations are visitors.
This weekend 40+ seminarians will be arriving at a number of sites around Chicagoland. Some of them will be speakers for meetings being held in churches around the city. Others will be assisting Dr. Ron Clouzet in the series he is preaching at the North Aurora Church beginning on May 7.
Meetings will be held in several Hispanic churches including Central Hispanic Church where the speaker will be Elder Armando Miranda, general vice-president of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. That meeting will begin May 15.
Yesterday at our Illinois Conference Executive Committee we heard exciting stories of what the Lord is doing in and through the members of this conference.
Tuesday I finally had an evening off. I chose to spend it attending the meeting at Burbank and hearing evangelist Charles Bursma. I almost didn’t go, but I was so glad that I did. I heard a faith affirming sermon and I had the opportunity to fellowship with others.
I encourage you to attend one of these 32 series. Join in and help out where needed, hear a good biblical message. Your heart will be warmed by the message and your presence may be a real inspiration to someone else, too.

Broadview Academy Alumni Weekend

BVA ANNUAL REUNION will be Friday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. and Sabbath May 1st at 9:30 a.m. at the North Aurora S.D.A. Church, 950 Mooseheart Road, (corner of Randall and Mooseheart Roads), in North Aurora. Speaker is: Pastor Ron Kelly (’82). There will be a potluck lunch immediately following the Church Services. Chicagoland Convocation

Plan to attend the Chicagoland Convocation on May 22. It will be a celebration of the evangelism going on throughout our conference. Mark Finley will be our featured speaker. We will be meeting once again at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.
